Aliens: Too Close To Home

Written by Matthew Warlick

I’ve always loved the Aliens universe ever since I first saw the James Cameron blockbuster at 6. It was literally the last movie that scared me in any meaningful way. I had such an overwhelming reaction to the movie that my parents hunted down information on the making of it to quell my fears.  I think that’s what first made me fall in love with storytelling and art; having something affect me so deeply only to find out it wasn’t real. It was all illusion.

Years later I would see Ridley Scott’s Alien and everything would change again. I’d learn about claustrophobic fear, true alien horror and how to frighten the hell out of people without showing much at all. Fast forward 26 years and I’m still fascinated by the xenomorphs and the dark, shadow place they occupy in our subconscious. This is my love letter to the Aliens universe, H.R. Giger, Ridley Scott , James Cameron and Ellen Ripley. When all else fails, nuke it from orbit.

Enjoy.
