Well, well, well. Look who’s come crawling back. Again.
It’s true. I’m disillusioned with social media.
I don’t want to make TikToks all day, I want to make art. And maybe write about it a little. And so, tentatively I’m back to blogging…? I don’t know anymore, this whole content-creation landscape makes me do this…
I won’t’ lie, it’s very comforting coming back here and seeing all the old posts sitting and waiting. When I started digging back into the blog for the first time recently it hit me just how much I miss having a platform I can control.
Sure, it’s not populated by millions of ethereal users who might interact but it does let me be my uncensored self, with no algorithm to please and no gatekeepers to hide my content (Fuck even just that word bothers me!).
The plan so far is to use the blog as the true-true, he-who-remains, single-source, absolute gospel for AOW “content”, ie all the stuff I want to make. So if it’s worth posting it’ll be posted here first.
Speaking of, I’m just about to break 4,000 followers on Instagram and I’m planning a nice little original art giveaway lined up to celebrate. Come join us.
Back in mid 2015 I was lucky enough to get invited to participate in one of the Topps Star Wars card sets. I did over 100 full color cards featuring characters from the first 6 movies, Clone Wars and Rebels that are available now a specialty inserts in the Journey to The Force Awakens hobby boxes.
Here’s what the culminated 100 sketch cards look like.
I’ll be out at my home store Madness Games & Comics this Saturday, May 2nd for Free Comic Book Day. I’ll have new art prints for sale not yet available in the online store and will be taking commissions and doing free head sketches for kids under 12.
Featured guests include Jake Llyod (Anakin Skywalker), Ray Park (Darth Maul), and Peter Mayhew (Chewbaca) plus over 25 thousand free comics to give away. We’ll also be selling this awesome FCBD tee shirt that I designed and that you can only get during the event.
My buddy and frequent DCC collaborator Devin Pike asked me to contribute the key art for this years Dallas Comic Con Shindig after-party extravaganza… so here’s Captain Mal in his underwear in a Barcolounger playing the classic MTV game show Remote Control. If we can get this to happen in real life my year will be made!
Captain Tightpants here will appear on poster art and on the official VIP Shindig Badges. The Shindig starts Saturday, May 30th at 7PM, tickets available here.
The Vinyl Thoughts Art Show 5 is here and Co-founder Cody Phillips was kind enough to invite me to participate in the show this year! I don’t make vinyl toys, yet, but I will have this exclusive new print available only at the show on September 25th. ‘Leporidae’ was created specifically for this event and will be limited to a run of 50 pieces, available only at Vinyl Thoughts 5. (more…)
If you happen to follow me on Facebook you may have seen a conversation or two about my growing dissatisfaction with creating fan art for conventions and how it would be great to see more artists drop the copyrighted characters from their portfolios and focus instead on original work they control and own. Because of those conversations and the reactions to them I’ve decided to put my money where my mouth is and do just that.
Starting now and going until July I’m having a giant fanart print sale. I’ve collected all my stock, taken a final inventory and put them up for sale in the newly resurrected Big Cartel Storefor $25 each, and I won’t be reprinting any of these pieces once the current stock sells out.
As a bonus incentive I’m also offering a massive 20% OFF when you use the coupon code FANART at checkout. Get em’ while they last, it’s first come first serve until stocks run out, and these piece won’t be reprinted or available anywhere else once they’re gone.
